Liverpool have approached Manuel Pellegrini about the prospect of replacing Roy Hodgson in the manager’s position at Anfield, report Click Liverpool.

With increasing pressure on Hodgson following a torrid start to the season on the pitch, new owners New England Sports Ventures could be looking for a fresh change.

The Reds currently sit 19th in the Premier League table with only 6 points from their opening 8 games, and were dumped out of the Carling Cup by League Two’s Northampton Town.

Pellegrini was linked with the job back in the summer when the Reds parted company with Rafa Benitez.

Pellegrini’s agent, Jesus Martinez, is reported as saying, “Pellegrini has had offers from clubs in Italy, but initially wanted to wait a bit to some better option. And Liverpool is a club that Manuel would like to manager.

“We had some contacts, but as the club is in the process of change, and no one knows who is boss, no progress on the topic.”

The Chilean was sacked as coach of Real Madrid in May this year when the La Liga giants appointed Joe Mourinho as new boss, despite achieving the club’s best ever points finish with 96 points. Barcelona won the title with 99.

Other names being touted around as possible replacements for Hodgson, should the owners wish to replace him include former Barcelona boss Frank Rijkaard, who left Galatasaray today after a poor start to the season. Also Kenny Dalglish and Martin O’Neil are amongst the bookies favourites.
